Disclaimer

This course is given in English. Accessing this course is your confirmation that the student taking the course fully understands English. No translation to other languages is provided. If you use an independent translator, we are not responsible for inaccuracies. English captions are available. In case of any errors in the captions, the spoken words supersede the written words in the captions.

At the time of publishing this course, calculator programs are allowed to be used on both the SAT and ACT. This course has no control over what happens at the testing center. The proctors are not directed to clear programs from the calculator. However, an uninformed individual proctor may have his/her own agenda and wrongly require this. This course suggests that if you are asked to do this, you should have with you a copy of the official calculator policy to show that clearing the programs is not required. The creator of this course has been tutoring high school students for the SAT and ACT for over 25 years. Exactly once in this time, a student reported back that the proctor required them to clear the programs. Every other time this did not happen, and that is hundreds of students, taking these exams multiple times.

Current calculator policy for the SAT

For the SAT, there is a list of acceptable calculators. All models of the TI-84 Plus are on the list. There is no mention of calculator programs, so the interpretation is that anything on the calculator is allowed.

Accessing this course or any other course on this site constitutes your agreement that we are not responsible for any mishaps that might occur. ‘Mishaps’ include but are not limited to:

  1. Proctors requiring programs to be cleared. (Again, unlikely but possible.)

  2. Future changes to the calculator policy that may disallow use of calculator programs.

  3. Proctors happening to notice you running a program, thinking that you are cheating, and you getting in trouble for it. This has never happened to any of our students! We just have to say it! There are many built-in apps on the calculator, and it is extremely unlikely a proctor would recognize any of them as being built-in ones vs. the ones you receive from this course.

  4. The calculator losing the programs and settings due to being left uncharged until the battery dies. (This applies to the CE models.) You must keep the calculator charged to avoid this! See Lesson 1-6 for more details.

  5. The calculator losing the programs and settings due to dead batteries, with no backup battery installed. (This applies to the models that use AAA batteries.) A backup button battery is factory installed and will hold the memory while you replace the AAA batteries. This button battery must be installed and not dead in order for it to work this way.

  6. Not being able to use your calculator on the exam because the batteries are too weak or dead, or because the calculator won’t turn on or malfunctions in any way.

  7. Programs being broken (either not working, or producing wrong answers) by accidentally deleting some of the code. (Learn how to avoid this in Lesson 1-6.)

  8. Programs being accidentally deleted by selecting a specific series of options (that you wouldn’t do unless you really wanted the program deleted).

  9. Programs not running because they have been archived accidentally and you don’t know how to unarchive them. (Again, this is not something you could typically achieve by accident.)

  10. Using a program to do a problem that it is not intended for, resulting in incorrect answers.

  11. Using a program incorrectly, resulting in incorrect answers.

  12. Using a program correctly, but not interpreting the result correctly or not giving the correct answer to the question. For example, assuming the output of the program is the answer to the question, when it is not the final step.

  13. Not being able to use calculator programs or functions due to the calculator being in a mode, screen, or setting that you don’t know how to get out of.

  14. Deciding that the programs or other functions and methods discussed did not assist you at all with test questions. (If that happens, it means you didn’t recognize when to use them.)

  15. Not achieving your desired score.

No refunds

No refunds are given for any of the above ‘mishaps’ or for your inability to load the programs onto your calculator. Clear instructions are given in Module 1, along with the strong suggestion that you load a trial program onto the calculator before purchasing the course. You must have the necessary cable and possibly an adapter (if your computer does not have the correct port).

No refunds are given for any reason. If you are unable to download the programs from the course, or unable to load them onto your calculator, please contact us for solutions.

Thanks for reading all of this! It is not meant to scare you, as the vast majority of people will not have any of the above issues. Now, GO! Learn how to beat the test!
