You inquired about ACT Math tutoring.

If I haven't been able to talk to you yet, here's what our conversation will be like:

  1. Do you have a TI-84 Plus calculator (any model), the cable that came with it, and (if needed) an adapter to plug it into a computer?
    • If yes, you are ready to start right away!
    • If no, Step 1 will be to get those things. Here are purchase links for your convenience.
    • We'll load programs onto the calculator before we start. Yes, you are allowed to use this calculator and its programs on the ACT.
  2. What my test prep program is about:
    • The focus is not to relearn 3-4 years math, but to find 'backward' ways to get the correct answers anyway. Calculator programs, built-in functions, Desmos, and other strategies help you answer the questions you don't know how to do the 'real' way. Think of it as 'outsourcing' the math to the technology you are allowed to use.
    • Even if you know the 'real' way for most questions, my methods can help you speed up your pace and/or help you double check answers to avoid careless mistakes.
  3. My online course,  X Factory Test Prep: Streamlined SAT Math
    • Yes, I know the title says 'SAT' not 'ACT' and everyone knows they are different tests. Hear me out! I wrote the SAT course first, and I'm still working on the (very similar) ACT course. Access to the unfinished ACT course is currently included with enrollment in Streamlined SAT Math. When finished, the ACT course will contain most of what is in the SAT course, plus a few more topics. Some of the practice questions in Streamlined SAT Math do not have choices (according to SAT format), but they are still valuable practice for the ACT. All of the methods: programs, calculator strategies, and other strategies, are the same for both tests. The relative importance of each topic is different for the two tests, and the ACT contains additional math topics. Neither course covers *every* possible topic you might see on the test, but a great variety of question types that can be solved by 'backward' methods. That is why there is so much overlap between the SAT and ACT courses. Some of the questions require knowing the 'real' ways, though.
  4. One-on-one tutoring sessions:
    • In tutoring, we will fill in anything pertaining to ACT Math that isn't in the online course. The most efficient and cost-effective way to proceed with tutoring is to purchase the tutoring package, which includes 4 tutoring sessions and the online SAT course and unfinished ACT course. It's best if you do at least the first 4 Modules of either course before scheduling tutoring sessions, but only Module 1 is required. Doing more in advance allows us to cover more topics in fewer tutoring sessions.
    • All options for tutoring can be found here.
  5. The course can also be used on its own, without tutoring. Find that option here and use coupon code XFSAVE50 for $50 off. For ACT, though, it is still advisable to have tutoring sessions if you are aiming for a very high score.
  6. Timing of appointments
    • Weekday afternoons and evenings are most popular, and therefore most limited. Daytime hours (10-3 on weekdays) are usually very available. Occasional Sundays are available, but not as a regular weekly appointment. Contact me directly for scheduling.
  7. Payments
    • The tutoring package can be purchased here.
    • After the first four sessions, they can be paid for one at a time by Zelle or Venmo, or the above package may be purchased again. Details to be sent via email when requested. Payment is due after the lesson.
  8. Cancellation Policy
    • Cancel by 10pm the night before the appointment to avoid charge.
    • Late cancellations and no-shows are charged the full fee. Rescheduling past the cancellation deadline means you are expected to pay for both the old and new appointments.
